Chandigarh Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has thwarted the attempts of a resident of Mauli Jagran who tried to trick the UT Electricity Department to wriggle out of his power dues.
Raseed Ahmed of Mauli Jagran filed a case in the Forum, claiming that the electricity meter installed at his residence became defective in 2006. Ahmed said that the bill issued to him from May to July 2006 stood at Rs 3,223,and was very high. On his complaint, the department reduced it to Rs 1000.
Ahmad claimed that the meter was removed from his residence because it was not working. He claimed that thereafter, the department issued him electricity bills, although no electricity was being consumed. He demanded that all his bills be waived off.
In its reply, the department told the Forum that due to non-payment of electricity bill of Rs 7,552,the meter was removed from Ahmad’s house in January 2007. The department said Ahmad had been allowed to pay his electricity bills on installments of Rs 1000 per month, but he did not do so.
After considering the case,President of the Forum PD Goel and Members Rajinder Singh Gill and Dr Madanjit Kaur Sahota directed the department to install an electricity meter at Ahmad’s house, after the complainant deposited all the outstanding dues.
