Constable suspended for beating driver

An autorickshaw driver alleged highhandedness on part of the Chandigarh Police personnel following a brawl in Malloya on Sunday night. Acting on the complaint,a senior police officer suspended the constable while three other policemen were transferred to the Police Lines.

Constable Yudhveer Singh,who is posted at the Maloya Police Post,was suspended while sub-inspector Surinder Singh,also posted at the Maloya Police Post,sub-inspector Rajinder Singh and constable Bachan Singh,both posted with Police Control Room (PCR) have been transferred to the Police Lines in Sector 26 today.

As per information,Maloya Police Post received a call about a brawl at the Dadu Majra Colony around 3:00 am. Constable Yudhveer Singh and sub-inspector Surinder Singh went to the spot on their bike. They rounded up two brothers who were in inebriated condition.

The policemen had no conveyance to ferry both the accused to the police post,so they stopped an auto rickshaw driver who was passing by and asked him to drop them to the police post. The driver,Jimmy,refused to oblige them and stated that the autorickshaw was running out of fuel.

Constable Yudhveer Singh then allegedly thrashed the 26-year-old driver. The incident took place around 3:30 am. The two then called the police control room and when two PCR officials – Sub-Inspector Rajinder Singh and constable Bachan Singh- reached the spot. The four cops jointly thrashed the autodriver by taking him to the Malloya police post.

The autorickshaw driver sustained more than a dozen injuries and his medical examination was conducted.
