Senior Congress leader M M Singh Cheema, member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and vice-president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC),was declared delegate from Sri Hargobindpur constituency ahead of the organisational election.
The decision was taken following the intervention of Congress president Sonia Gandhi whom he had approached after his name was missing in the first list of PPCC delegates declared on September 1. Cheema said he was thankful to the party Chief, adding that he had no grudge against any one.
He said the one-line resolution by the party, authorising the AICC head to choose the state unit chief, proved that all leaders and workers of the Congress were united. The new chief of the PPCC will be the one who can sail the party through upcoming Assembly elections in the state, he stated, adding that he had apprised the high command about the need for a strong and dedicated Congressman as PPCC president with a clean image.
