After Jagjit Singh Kang decided to contest as an Independent candidate,Congress councillors were called for a meeting late in the evening. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources Pawan Kumar Bansal reportedly asked the councillors to stay united and work for the party. The councillors were told that there was no place in the party for those who worked against the interests of Congress. Most councillors condemned Kang’s action.
