The Institute of Textile Technology and Research a centre for excellence in the field of textile will soon be set up in Sanghera village of Barnala district in Punjab. With an investment of Rs 100 crore,the institute will be set up by the Punjab Technical University (PTU) in collaboration with the Punjab technical education department and the states industrial houses.
The proposal to set up the institute has already been discussed by a 12-member committee comprising members from PTU,the technical education department and the Punjab Unaided Technical Institutions Association (PUTIA).
PTU will invest the entire amount while the state government will provide 20 acres of land for the project in Sanghera village. Industrial houses would provide all technical knowhow,it is learnt. PTU has already contacted Vardhman,Oswal,Trident Saluja and Aarti to prepare a blueprint of the institute.
PTU Vice-Chancellor Dr Rajneesh Arora said the proposal had already been discussed with the technical education department as well as industrial houses. PTU wants to set up a world-class institute in the field of textile and land in Sanghera village has already been identified, he added.
The institute,proposed to be an autonomous body,would offer various courses in different streams of textile. Efforts are being made to set up the institute by the next session,said the V-C.
