Around 50 students of Shyam Lal Thapar College of Nursing,Moga, protested against the college authorities alleging misappropriation of funds near the Press Club on Thursday. The students alleged that the college has been harassing them to pay more fees than required apart from turning them out of the hostel after they raised a voice against the authorities.
Students, who had come from Moga, said that they were in the city to draw attention to the issue as the local administration had failed to take any action against the college.
It has been three years since I have been studying in the college and not once have I been given a receipt. There is no policy to check the amount of fee that is charged from us, said Mandeep Kaur,a student of BSc Nursing (final year).
We were asked to submit Rs 70,000 to fill the admission form. Not only this, every time we demanded a break-up of the amount,we were snubbed, said Simran Kaur, another student.
The college is run by a former minister of the Punjab government. This is the reason no one from the administration has acted on our complaints. The college should be held accountable for the money they charge, rued a parent.
The girls also alleged that they have been turned out of the hostel as they had raised their voice. The director of the college,Dr Malit Thapar, however, was unavailable for comments despite repeated attempts.
