Two coffee table books on talented children and leading personalities of the city were launched at the Government Museum and Art Gallery,Sector 10. Penned by Aneesh Bhanot,the books titled The Talented Children of the Tricity Volume 1 and Chandigarh and its Leading Personalities Volume 3 have featured profiles of 71 children and 82 personalities from a cross section of the society including social activists,architects,doctors,administrators,entrepreneurs,sports persons,industrialists,etc. The books have been dedicated to Neerja Bhanot,the youngest recepient of the Ashok Chakra who achieved world-wide fame for giving up her own life while saving hundreds of passengers in a Pan American flight which was hijacked at Karachi airport by 4 hijackers in September 1986. Desh Prem Azad said,It is a great step to boost the morale of school children. Since a number of children featured in the books have won accolades in sports,I am sure it will help these future sportspersons to excel in the field. Sharing his plans for the future,Aneesh Bhanot also said,The earlier volumes of the books have had some really interesting effects on the lives of a few people featured in the books. While one of the personalities featured in volume 1 was able to get his daughters marriage fixed in a high profile family,another was able to fetch a joint venture with an overseas company. I hope the new books have a similar impact on the people featured in them. Mayor urges city to help MC Mayor Subhash Chawla urged the residents of Chandigarh to help the Municipal Corporation serve them better. He also mentioned that the sanitation problems of the city are being aggravated due to the ignorance of the residents. It has been noticed that people usually leave the ground littered that they rented to them for organising a function. They expect the MC to pick up the garbage that they have created. He further said that the corporation will try to develop the Cricket Stadium in Sector 16 if it is transferred to it. The stadium is currently under the Chandigarh Administration.
