No-body
The Chandigarh Police Control room received a call on Sunday noon with the caller tipping offpolice that some highly influential people in a red-beaconed vehicle had dumped a body in a sector in Chandigarh. The call sent the police into a tizzy. A team of police officials immediately reached the spot and started digging to fish out the body. After much exercise, the Police officials found out that the influential people had buried their pet dog. By the way,the tip off was given by a retired Sub Inspector of the Chandigarh Police.
Strange tactics
More than its investigative skills,Chandigarh Police seem to depend on the accused to disclose the truth. Police officials assured that as the Chevrolet Cruze, which rammed into an ambulance, was an expensive vehicle, the owner would not be allowed to get away without disclosing as to who was driving the car on the fateful night. Instead, the police waited for over three days for the owner to visit the police station and narrate the truth. Needless to mention an FIR was not registered for two days and police waited for three days for the owner to turn up,all the while claiming they were putting pressure on him.
No stone unturned
The Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) appears to be up in arms against the Panjab University authorities and Vice-Chancellor RC Sobti,in particular,at every occasion. The body does not leave any opportunity to create an uproar against any decision, which deviates even slightly from the rulebook. While the V-C allotted a two-day additional charge of Dean University Instructions to Dean College Development Council Naval Kishore last weekend,in the formers absence,PUTA representatives created a huge ruckus over the matter and even sent written objections to the officials. As per the rules, the senior-most official of the University should have been given the charge – who happens to be R K Kohli. While even Kohli was not available during the weekend,it did not deter PUTA from protesting.
Pulling all strings
Amid speculation for the selection of a few Panjab University officials for the post of Vice-Chancellor (V-C) ,the supporters of R K Kohli, the senior-most professor in the faculty of science, are seen exploring all options to publicise his name. As Kohli,a renowned scientist, received a national level award last week, his supporters in the University kept requesting media persons to highlight his name prominently in reports. Kohli has been in the race to become the V-C for the last many years.
Burning Hearts
Amidst heated arguments in the Municipal Corporation House Meeting, the smell of something burning suddenly had everyone trying to locate the source. While the cause was found to be a short-circuit in an air-conditioner in the assembly hall,it led to the BJP and Congress councillors taking jibes at each other. The most common retort was,Kiska dil jalne ki smell aa rahi hai. rowers delight
When the Punjab rowing sub junior team returned to Chandigarh early this week after winning a gold medal in the national rowing championship at Tamil Nadu, the junior rowers were busy inspecting the dried Sukhna lake. When the team had left for the competition, the Lake had not dried as much. The dried lake indeed helped us in a way. We made sprints of 500 m each and it was a blessing in disguise, said a rower.
Glued
The Euro 2012 fever seems to have gripped Tricity. During the ongoing football tournament at the Sector 17 football stadium in Chandigarh, spectators are seen discussing the Euro matches and raising slogans in favour of their favorite teams. They also turn up for the local football matches wearing their favourite teams jerseys. The results of the local matches do not matter much to them but the Euro 2012 sure seem to.
Blessing in disguise!
The absence of a senior health official, which is usually not a positive thing for the department, has now turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Pending files regarding appointment of different staff members including nurses, lab technicians and other para medical staff, which were not being taken up,were thankfully cleared during the officials leave period. A senior doctor of the Health department quipped: May be he should have gone on leave much earlier!
