Official summer getaways
Several top officials from Haryana have grand plans for their summer sojourns. Anil Malik,Managing Director,HAFED,is scheduled to visit Germany from May 31. Ambala Commissioner Anil Kumar is already in the United States on a personal visit. Hisar DC O P Sheoran is scheduled to follow Anil in the first week of June. And IAS officer Pushparaj Singh has plans to visit China. Incidentally,a farmers delegation from the state was also slated to visit China later this month.Two IAS officers were to accompany them. But the Haryana Agriculture Marketing Board cancelled that trip. Most of the 26 farmers happened to be relatives of politicians.

During the recently held Chandigarh MC House meet,nominated councilor Dr Pam Rajput took strong exception to being termed buzurg (old). Dr Rajput who was speaking in the House was interrupted by another councilor after which the Mayor intervened saying,Woh buzurg hain unko pehle bolne dijiye (he is an old man,let him speak first). Dr Rajput countered,I am younger than most people who dye their hair.

Over the moon
In the well-planned tricity,its not hard to get lost in the 90-degree lanes. So when they had to choose a place to meet the media,the parents of the CBSE Class XII topper from the region chose the tricitys once-most-favourite spot: right in front of the main gate of Bhajan Lals house. As photojournalists clicked the youngster,passersby wondered if the media contingent had gathered to capture yet another drama in the Chand-Fiza episode. And Chand did make an appearance. The former Haryana deputy CM appeared quite apprehensive of the media contingent in front of his house,but heaved a sigh a relief when he realised that the spotlight was not on him. He congratulated the topper,gingerly,from behind the iron gate.
