Who leaked report?

The report on the booth allotment scam submitted recently by former ADC P S Shergill is giving sleepless nights to the Congress. During the recent visit of a BJP delegation to Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shivraj Patil to submit a memorandum,Patil apparantly expressed surprise and was keen to know how the report was leaked to the media. He discussed the issue with the BJP leaders, who were demanding a CBI probe into the issue. Patil, however, did not give any assurance on what would be his stand on the issue.

Practise what you preach

It was amusing to see that while on one side Panjab University (PU) has been promoting the campus as a no-vehicle and pollution-free zone,on the other side,it did not hesitate to advertise four-wheelers at a national event held on the campus. More amusing was the fact that while lectures were being delivered by experts from across the country on how to save the environment inside the PU auditorium, swanky four-wheelers were put on display at the entrance on behalf of a sponsor. This was at the Chandigarh Science Congress — the three-day annual event held at PU to promote science.

The silent spectator

The recent House Meet of the Municipal Corporation was a fiery affair. However, throughout the discussion on the controversial issue of mayoral polls,Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh was mostly a silent observer — even as the Opposition raised certain issues and his fellow Congress councillors gave directions on how the proceedings should be conducted. This led many nominated councillors to ask the mayor to know his responsibility and use his power.

The legal ‘delay’

Though the CBI has produced chargesheet against Justice (Retd) Nirmal Yadav in the infamous cast-at-judge’s-door case, the special CBI court is not yet “competent” to pass any directions. For,a formal notification confirming the special powers of a CBI judge are yet to be received by the judge. Rightly so,the judge is being extra cautious in not passing any orders till the formal notification is received. However, the aggrieved defence counsel are trying their best to lay hands on the chargesheet to know the “fresh” evidence gathered by the investigating agency.

Letter in blood to governor

Indian National Students Organisation president Vikas Rathi held a press conference to register his protest against the alleged bungling in recruitment to Haryana Civil Services in Panchkula on March 4. Rathi had even brought a doctor with him,who drew blood from his body so that he could write a letter with it. He wrote a letter to Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia in front of mediapersons demanding that the scam be investigated.
