1 dead, 18 missing after 3 cloudbursts reported in Himachal’s Mandi
Mandi district administration officials said 34 people were rescued after cloudbursts were reported in Karsog, Gohar and Dharampur in the last 12 hours.

(Express Photos)One person was killed and 18 people, including five members of a family, went missing following three cloudbursts in different parts of the Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh Tuesday, prompting authorities to deploy personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the state police for rescue operations.
According to Mandi district administration officials, 34 people were also rescued after cloudbursts were reported in Karsog, Gohar and Dharampur subdivisions in the last 12 hours. They also said more than three dozen cattle, including cows, calves and goats, are missing in the cloudburst-affected areas.
Meanwhile, all educational institutions in three districts of the state, including Kangra, Hamirpur, Mandi, and Shimla, remained closed Tuesday due to a heavy rain alert.
According to the Disaster Management Authority, Mandi, Padam Singh (75), his wife Devku Devi (70), Jhabe Ram (50), his wife Parvati Devi (47), Surmi Devi (70), Indra Dev (29), his wife Umavati (27), his daughter Kanika (9), and his seven-year-old son Gautam went missing from Gohar sub-division.

According to information, the water discharge from Pandoh Dam has reached 1.57 lakh cusecs, leading to flooding in the Beas River. With 1.65 lakh cusecs of water inflow from upstream, all five floodgates of the dam have been opened.
As a result, the Pandoh market is now inundated, and residents have vacated their homes, with SDRF taking charge of operations in the area.
Meanwhile, more than two dozen roads were blocked in the rural areas of Shimla district due to a landslide Tuesday. Officials said JCB machines were being used to clear the debris from the blocked roads.
