City celebrates as Anna breaks fast

Celebrations were witnessed in different parts of the city as Anna Hazare ended his fast on Sunday.

A large group of people carrying national flags marched towards Sector 17. Amidst beating of drums and raising of slogans people of all age groups participated in the march. Sweets were distributed by the volunteers.

People had camped near the residence of Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal in Sector 28. Candle light vigils had been held.

The volunteers of various groups termed it a victory for Hazare and the anti-corruption movement. They opined that there was a need for an effective Lokpal Bill in order to curb growing corruption and a change would be witnessed.

Many people held a victory rally that started near the office of Central Bureau of Investigation,Sector 30 and passing through Sectors 20,21 and 22 terminated at the bus stand in Sector 17.

The residents of Sector 15 organised celebrations. The members of the grain market association gathered at the market to mark the occasion.

Over the past 13 days,the city had witnessed numerous protests by different organisations. Candle light vigils had been organised by the market associations and the resident welfare associations. The residences of the ministers belonging to the city were targeted with protests witnessed outside these. This had even forced the Administration to impose Section 144 near their residences.
