Citrus Council ex-CEO booked

The crime wing of Punjab Police booked Vikramjit Singh Chimni,former CEO of Citrus Council,Punjab,besides nine others and a fake Delhi-based company.

The crime wing of Punjab Police today booked Vikramjit Singh Chimni,former CEO of Citrus Council,Punjab,besides nine others and a fake Delhi-based company,Balaji Traders,in the Citrus Council scam.

This is the first case registered in the newly created police station of crime wing which has jurisdiction all over the state. The police today evening lodged the case under Prevention of Corruption Act,cheating,forgery,criminal breach of trust by public servant,using forged documents and criminal conspiracy against Chimni,Seerat Dhillon,Madhumita Nain,Gurpreet Singh Nain,Ekam Singh Dhillon,Navjot Singh (now dead),Yogesh Dutta,Rajinder Singh,Dr Vipin Kumar Saini and Una Saini.

This follows an inquiry report submitted to the state government some time back by Ishwar Singh,Police Commissioner,Ludhiana.

Sources said that around Rs 81 crore have been spent on these projects with just around 4,000 acres of land actually being covered under the diversification plans instead of the proposed 20,000 acres.

The FIR states that from the perusal of the enquiry report it has come out that the Council of Citrus and Agri Juicing and Organic Farming Council of Punjab has misappropriated government funds and prima facie committed an offence.

A firm,Global Agri Venture,at Mangat village in Ludhiana district,from which vermi-compost was shown to be supplied,has Madhumita Nain and Seerat Dhillon as partners while their husbands were posted as senior managers in the Council. During inquiry,the joint bank account of the firm showed transaction of over Rs 1.14 crore. These bills were passed without verification,states the FIR.
