The privileged VIPs may soon find themselves not so privileged in CITCO hotels in the region.

In its meeting on Tuesday, the Board of Governors of the Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO) decided to phase out the privilege cards issued in the last 30 years.

Since its inception in the 1980s,CITCO has been following the practice of issuing privilege cards to all its directors, senior officials of the UT Administration,Punjab and Haryana governments,IPS officers, journalists and senior advocates, among others.

These cards entitle these ‘VIPs’ to massive discounts on food and accommodation in CITCO hotels, including Hotel Mountview — CITCO’s only five-star hotel in the city.

So far, more than 400 privilege cards have been issued by CITCO.

Till a few months ago,the discount limit on these cards was as high as 50 per cent — recently,it was brought down to 25 per cent.

Under the revised system of issuing privileged cards, only the 14 current directors of CITCO are entitled to 50 per cent discount.
