The sweltering heat of June could not dampen Himanshu Chawla’s spirits on the second day of the U-22 Punjab Inter-District cricket tournament match at the PCA stadium,as he smashed a blistering knock of 155 runs to help Patiala take 11-run first innings lead against Mohali. In reply to Mohali’s first innings total of 284 runs,Patiala made 295 runs. Chawla was brutal in executing his fluent shots at the PCA stadium during his knock of 155 runs that included 22 fours. Chawla was involved in two crucial partnerships that insured first innings lead for Patiala. Chawla was involved in a 107-run partnership for the fifth-wicket with Vicky Sharma who made 29 runs. Later,he partnered Bhavish Goel (44),to add 77 runs for the eighth wicket. This partnership saw Patiala go past the Mohali score of 284. Chawla was the last man to be dismissed. Finally,Patiala were all out for 295 runs off 84 overs. For Mohali,Harpreet Chatha (4 for 84) and Arshdeep Brar (3 for 69) shared the spoils. Trailing by 11 runs,Mohali were 78 for 1 off 24 overs at close of second day’s play. Harpreet Mander (41 no) and ArshdeepBrar (45) were the main scorers for Mohali.

Chandigarh smell win
Riding high on Sunny (3 for 47) and Abhinav Sharma’s (3 for 47) tremendous bowling performances,Amritsar bowled Chandigarh out for 200 runs in 83.4 overs on the second day of the match being played at the Sector 16 stadium in Chandigarh. In reply to Chandigarh’s total,Amritsar were 163 runs for 8 in 68 overs. Chandigarh resuming at 155 for 4,were bundled out for 200 runs. Veer Karan Goyal(84) and Gurinder Singh (58),took measure of Amritsar attack. Amristar was well served by Sunny (3 for 47) and Abhinav Sharma (3 for 47) who rocked the Amritsar middle-order. Replying Amritsar was tottering at 163 for 8 in 68 overs at close of second day’s play. Rohan Marwaha scored a half century (57) for Amritsar to provide some resistance. For Chandigarh,left-arm spinner Gurinder Singh bagged three wickets,giving away 53 runs. Chandigarh bowlers will be gunning for the remaining two Amritsar wickets to carve out triumph for the team.

Jalandhar have edge
In the third match being played at the Burlton Park in Jalandhar,Ludhiana chasing Jalandhar’s total of 389 runs,were 336 for 8 in 107 overs at close of second days play. Ravinder (61 no),Aashish Kumar (45) and Sandeep Singh (41 no) did the bulk of scoring for Ludhiana. Ravinder and Sandeep Singh were involved in an unbroken stand of 105 runs for the ninth wicket.Yogesh (5 for 95) was the mostsuccessful bowler for Jalandhar. Ludhiana batsmen will look forward to go past Jalandhar’s first inning’s total of 389 runs when they come out to bat on the third day of the match. Meanwhile,Jalandhar bowlers will aim to scalp two left over wickets and record win.
