Chargesheet against Whiskey,six others in financer murder

Three months after the murder of a city financer in Sector 20,the Chandigarh police on Friday submitted the chargesheet against prime accused Devinder Singh Whiskey and six others.

Three months after the murder of a city financer in Sector 20,the Chandigarh police on Friday submitted the chargesheet against prime accused Devinder Singh Whiskey and six others.

The chargesheet has been filed under Section 302 and 120-B of the IPC and produced in the court of JMIC Manisha Jain.

The case made headlines on November 25,2009,when prominent businessman Harjinder Singh Dhillon was shot by five assailants in his office in the busy Sector 20 market. Police investigation had narrowed on to six accused,including Whiskey. The accused were arrested within a fortnight and dispute over car finance was established as the motive.

The police submitted the chargesheet today against Devinder Singh Whiskey,Manpreet Singh alias Manu,Surinder Singh alias Maana,Amrik Singh,Kuldeep Singh,Munish Sharma and Ravinder of Khanna for the murder.

On December 6,2009,the Special Crime Cell of the Chandigarh police achieved the first major breakthrough in the case and nabbed four persons associated with Whiskey.

According to the chargesheet,Whiskey,with the co-accused,hatched a conspiracy to snatch a car bearing registration number PB-16-C 7070,which was registered in the name of Whiskey but was in Dhillon’s possession. The police said the accused had come to Sector 20 C in a car (PB-11AN 2049).

While one of the accused,Amrik Singh,remained near the vehicle,the others went to Harjinder Singh’s office and got into a scuffle with him to get the key of the car. As Dhillon raised a hue and cry,Whiskey pulled out a gun and shot him. An employee working at the shop at the time was the only eyewitness.

The seven accused had fled the spot leaving behind the car which was the bone of the contention.

The police had nabbed two more aides of Whiskey on December 8. The two accused were identified as Munish Sharma of Fatehgarh Sahib and Ravinder of Khanna. On December 11 Whiskey was finally arrested from Khanna.

According to the chargesheet,Whiskey has a history of crimes since the days of terrorism in Punjab and has been a proclaimed offender in various cases.
