The Met department has predicted thunder activity and light rain in Chandigarh on Saturday, holding out hope for voters in the Union Territory that they might not have to brave the hot, sultry weather while going to the polling booths.
According to weather expert Shivender Singh from the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, “A system is approaching, there are chances of thunder and light rain on Saturday bringing some relief.”

He, however, advised voters to still carry water and cover their heads while going out to vote.
“As it is the beginning of June, the maximum temperature tomorrow will not be less than 40 degree Celsius. But there is slight relief and the temperature will be lower by three to four degree compared to Friday owing to the rain activity,” he said.
Chandigarh witnessed the driest May this year since 2013, with no rainfall noted till May 30. In 2023, May recorded 106.5 mm of rain, while it was 26.2 mm in May 2022 and 60.8 mm in May 2021.
The city also notched up its highest May temperature of 46 degree Celsius on May 30 this year, breaking the previous high of 44.4 degree Celsius recorded on May 15, 1970.
Chandigarh is one of the 57 Lok Sabha seats that will vote in the final phase of the polls on June 1.
