Members of Students’ Organisation of India (SOI) burnt an effigy of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP and comedian Bhagwant Mann at the DC office, Mohali, in protest against his act of allegedly entering a religious function under the influence of liquor. The members also took out a protest march from Bassi Cinema to the DC’s office in Phase I, Mohali.

The protesters demanded action against Mann for allegedly attending the religious bhog ceremony commemorating two Sikh youths who died during anti-desecration protests in Faridkot last Sunday. “We condemn such an unethical and disrespectful attitude towards Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.” said S Parambans Singh Bunty Romana, National Co-ordinator SOI.

“Punjab is going through a very sensitive time where anti-state forces are keenly active to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the state. Rather than leading the youth on the right path, if our elected representative will behave in such an immature manner, we will condemn it strongly,” Singh added.

Supporters of SOI’s parent party Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had also burnt Mann’s effigy in Jalandhar Monday, where a protest march was organised from Pathankot Chowk to Doaba Chowk.
