“I have not been to Chandigarh, but I am excited about my new role. I have just received the orders,” said the new UT Adviser, Rajeev Verma, to The Indian Express.
Verma, the Chief Secretary of Puducherry, has been transferred as the new Chandigarh Adviser to the UT Administrator. Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, he completed his M.Tech in Computer Science and his graduation in Computer Science from the University of Roorkee.
A 1992 batch IAS officer from the AGMUT cadre, Verma will be joining soon. The post had been vacant since October 31 after the previous Adviser, Dharam Pal, superannuated due to voluntary retirement.
When contacted, Verma told The Indian Express over the phone from Puducherry, “I haven’t been to Chandigarh. I just received the orders. I am excited about the new role and will be able to speak more about it once I
reach Chandigarh.”
Before the Puducherry posting in 2022, Verma was the Principal Secretary and Commissioner of Finance in New Delhi. He also served as the Joint Secretary of Defence from 2013 to 2017 and was the Chairman and Managing Director, Joint Secretary of Transport from 2012 to 2013.
He also helmed the departments of Sports and Health as a Joint Secretary and was Secretary of Power in Goa.
