13-yr-old goes missing in Mauli Jagran

Chandigarh: A 13-year-old girl went missing from her house in Mauli Jagran on Saturday. Police said the girl was staying with her grandfather. When he returned home from work on Saturday evening,he found her to be missing,after which he approached the police. A case has been registered against an unknown person/persons for kidnapping under section 363 of the Indian Penal Code.

RoboTryst workshop concludes at UIET

CHANDIGARH: The two-day ‘RoboTryst’ workshop on Robotics,organised for UIET (University Institute of Engineering and Technology) students who will participate in the forthcoming fest at IIT Delhi,concluded on Sunday. Robosapiens Technologies,India’s robotics education company,conducted the workshop on Robotics and Embedded systems by showing the students live robotics projects. UIET served as the zonal centre for the workshop that started on November 16.

RoboTryst is IIT Delhi’s annual technical fest held during February-March where six UIET teams are expected to participate.

Moti Ram School alumni meet held at Press Club

CHANDIGARH: Former students of Moti Ram Arya Senior Secondary School in Sector 27,Sanjeev Gupta (‘74 batch) and Chander P Anand (‘78 batch) organised an alumni meet at the Chandigarh Press Club on Sunday. The gathering was also held to honour an NRI from Canada,Jes Sehgal,who passed out in 1991. Also,a blood donation camp to be organised at the school on November 23 was announced.

109 donors turn up at blood camp

Chandigarh: As many as 109 people donated blood at the 38th blood donation camp organised by Sri Sathya Sai Seva organisation at Sai Old Age Home in Sector 30. A team of doctors from PGI was present at the camp being held as part of the activities being organised from November 1 onwards to mark the birth anniversary of Sathya Sai Baba on November 23.

Smriti Samaroh held for Hindi poet,author

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Sahitya Academy organised a Smriti Samaroh on the first death anniversary of Dr Sudha Jain,a freelance writer,poet and author of 17 Hindi books.

K K Khandelwal,Secretary to Haryana Chief Minister was chief guest at the function held at Digambar Jain Temple in Sector 27,while Justice Ajay Mittal was guest of honour. On the occasion,Khandelwal released a compilation of articles about Dr Jain that is titled Sudha Smriti Granth.

Sudha Jain,wife of one of PGIMER’s founding faculty member Dr I S Jain,did her PhD from Panjab University,where she also taught Hindi literature. She penned poetry books such as ‘Gulabon Ka Shahar’ and ‘Mausam Garam Hai’. Jain had been honoured with the Sreshta Rachna award by Haryana Sahitya Academy in 2011.

Bansal wishes people on Gurpurab

Chandigarh: MP Pawan Kumar Bansal,on Sunday,extended his greetings on Gurpurab and visited the Sector 19 Gurdwara where he paid obeisance and interacted with devotees. He said,as an MP,he had tried to work for the Sikh community,adding that two days ago the Chandigarh-Amritsar train had been introduced to allow people of Punjab and Chandigarh to return on the same day after visiting the Golden Temple and Durgiana Mandir.

Ram-Leela under fire from BJYM

Chandigarh: Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM),BJP’s youth wing,protested against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Ram-Leela’ at Industrial Area on Sunday. They demanded posters of the film be removed from multiplexes,while burning a few posters themselves. President of BJYM’s Chandigarh unit,Amit Rana,said the word ‘Ram’ had been used inappropriately and the film makers should apologise.
