CAT results declared,PEC student emerges a topper

City lad Ankit Garg brought laurels to Chandigarh by scoring 100 percentile in the Common Aptitude Test.

City lad Ankit Garg brought laurels to Chandigarh by scoring 100 percentile in the Common Aptitude Test (CAT). The result was declared on Sunday.

This is for the third consecutive year that a local student has scored 100 percentile in CAT.

Talking to Newsline,a beaming Garg, who has belled the CAT in his first attempt, held consistent hardwork as the key to his success.

“I devoted around two hours everyday for six months to CAT,which sailed me through. Being focused also helped a lot,” he said.

Chandigarh, meanwhile, kept its tradition of producing candidates with 99-95 percentile. Around 12,000 students from the region took the CAT this year.

IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Shillong announced the results on Sunday. So far, more than 25 students from the city have got interview calls from IIMs.

Garg,a final-year engineering student of PEC University of Technology, has got a call from IIM Ahmedabad and hopes to get calls from the remaining IIMs as well.

Since only IIM Ahmedabad and Shillong have released the final result, many students, including Garg, were waiting for the complete result.

This year, the number of students receiving calls from IIMs have increased, with engineers taking the lion’s share of top slots.

Another engineer from PEC,Manu Bajaj, has scored 99.98 percentile and has got a call from IIM (A). He said thorough preparation of Class XI and XII mathematics made CAT a cakewalk.

Other successful candidates from the city include Karanvir Singh (99.97 percentile) and Anshul Kishore (98.72 percentile). Both have been called to join IIM Ahmedabad.

Speaking about the results,CAT expert Mickey M said last year, around 40 students had received calls from IIMs and the number is expected to cross 60 this time.

The results will be followed by a round of group discussions and personal interviews of the selected candidates.

Besides beaming faces, there were also some heartbreaks, with some candidates not receiving a call from IIMs despite getting 99 percentile.

Sushant Jhamb,a final-year engineering student at PEC,secured 99.94 percentile but did not get an interview call from either IIM (A) or IIM (S).

Server crashes several times
The declaration of result was mired by a technical snag,as the server crashed several times in the day.

The heavy rush of students logging on to the CAT website was termed as the reason behind the website closing temporarily.

Students were able to access the invitation lists of IIM (A) and IIM (S) but could not access their scores.
