The 2011 Socio-Economic and Caste Census will commence in Chandigarh from the third week of July. The Union Territories of Chandigarh,Daman and Diu,Dadra and Nagar Haveli,Puducherry and the state of Tripura will be covered in the first phase of the census.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting with the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation held in New Delhi recently.
As per the proposed methodology for enumeration and data capture, the administrative boundaries used for the 2011 census will be used for the census survey.
The basic enumeration units will be the enumeration block comprising of 125 to 150 households.
Enumerators will visit every household and canvass the questionnaire.
The database created during the National Population Register (NPR) will be utilised as base data, which will be pre-loaded on to hand-held devices carried by the enumerators.
The enumerator will be provided the list of households present in a particular enumeration block used during the census.
Other than the pre-loaded information on the hand-held device, the remaining information will be canvassed and filled in after visiting every household. The survey will be based on a self-declaration model of the respondents.
A training of the master trainer facilitators is being organised in New Delhi from June 13-15,which will be followed by the training of the enumerators who will be deployed for the census survey.
