Finding the probe conducted by Haryana police against BJP MP from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, Sukhbir Jaunapuria, for allegedly assaulting a Gurgaon advocate to withdraw cases against him, as “perfunctory” and “not upto the mark”, the Punjab and Haryana High Court Monday transferred the case to Haryana Crime Branch to be probed under direct supervision of Additional Director General of Police (Crime) Shatrujeet Singh Kapur.
Previously, an MLA from Sohna constituency in Gurgaon, Jaunapuria was also the Managing Director of SS Group of Companies which is into real estate business in Gurgaon.

Justice Jaspal Singh while disposing of the petition last week filed by Gurgaon advocate Ramanand Yadav, observed, “Since respondent no.5 (Jaunapuria) is alleged to have exercised his influence being a MP who is otherwise facing a large number of other criminal cases, this Court is of the considered view that investigation being conducted by SIT is not upto the mark.”The judge ordered the crime branch to get the matter probed afresh “by a senior responsible officer to be nominated by the Additional Director General of Police (Crime), Haryana, under his direct supervision.”
Granting a period of nine months to the Crime branch to complete the probe, the court directed the SIT to hand over the entire case record to the Crime branch within 15 days.
On May 16 2015, on the basis of a complaint filed by advocate Yadav, an FIR was registered against Jaunapuria and others in Gurgaon, for assault and other charges. The petitioner had alleged that when he and his son were going to Gurgaon court in their vehicle, a jeep had blocked their way. Around eight persons alighted from the vehicle with sticks and rods in their hands had “threatened that the cases filed against Jaunapuria should be withdrawn otherwise they would be killed.” Thereafter, the petition said, they were attacked.
