On the backfoot from his own partymen over the drubbing the Congress party received in the just concluded Assembly elections,state Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday asserted his authority by assigning the job of preparing ground in the key parliamentary constituencies for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections to his loyalists. He assigned 13 parliamentary constituencies to senior leaders,vice-presidents and general secretaries of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.
Amarinder loyalist Chaudhary Jagjit Singh has been appointed in charge of Amritsar parliamentary constituency,Kewal Singh Dhillon for Ferozepur (he normally contests from Barnala),Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi for Anandpur Sahib (he contests from Guruharsahai in Ferozepur),Ashwani Shekhri for Ludhiana (contests from Batala),Sukh Sarkaria for Khadoor Sahib,Rana Gurjeet Singh for Gurdaspur and OP Soni of Jalandhar. Another trusted aide,Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon has been made in charge of Bathinda.
Defeated MLAs have also made to the list. They include Harmander Jassi,who has been made in charge of Hoshiarpur,RC Dogra for Fatehgarh Sahib and Rana KP for Patiala. Fateh Singh Bajwa,brother of Gurdaspur MP Pratap Bajwa,has been made in charge of Faridkot parliamentary constituency. Aruna Choudhary is the in charge of Sangrur. Vikram Bajwa,son-in-law of former PPCC vice president Laal Singh,will continue to be the overall in charge of the head office and frontal organisations. CLP leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal will be attached with Lal Singh for frontal organisations while Capt Sandeep Sandhu,will be in charge office and attached with Lal Singh.
