The Jalandhar district authority on Tuesday cancelled the licence of the accused travel agent’s consultancy after he allegedly provided fake admission letters to hundreds of students in Canada who are presently facing deportation.

Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh said that he has issued the order for cancellation of licence of M/S Education Migration services owned by Brijesh Mishra and Rahul Bhargava. Apart from students who are facing deportation in Canada, some students in Punjab have also been blacklisted for five years by the Canadian government for submitting fake offer letters provided by the same agency.

Mishra’s agency had been sending students to Canada since 2018.

DC Singh said the licence has been cancelled as per provisions of Punjab travel professional Regulation Act, 2014. “According to rule 4 of the Act, a licence is issued subject to conditions that the licensee is not involved in any crime as per police record. Therefore, if the licensee is involved in any crime as per police records, it would mean a violation of the terms and conditions of the license. On the other hand, section 6(1) of the Act, 2014 deals with cancellation of license by the competent authority if it has come to the knowledge of the competent authority,” the DC said, adding that on one hand, “the accused is not only causing hardship to innocent youths and their parents but has also affected the image of the state.

“If a person, who is not enjoying a clean police record is permitted to continue work of a travel agent, it will send a wrong message to the people,” the order reads.

Earlier, a show cause notice was issued to the consultancy and the licences were placed under suspension.

The Jalandhar police had also booked the duo under Sections 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of IPC and investigation was handed over to Anti-Human Trafficking Unit. Mishra was also arrested in 2013 for duping students and that time, he was running Easy Way immigration agency.
