With campaigning to end at 5 pm on Saturday, candidates from various parties have shifted their campaign mode into the fifth gear. Not only the count for nukkad meetings,gatherings,door-to-door campaigns, but the time for food, rest and sleep has also been lost. Helping the candidates out are not only their immediate family but also cousins, relatives and good friends.

Congress’ Faridkot candidate Avtar Singh Brar said,“It is do or die now. My entire family is out on the road. Earlier,my day would begin at 6 am and end at midnight but for the next two days,I have no time to even breath. I just do not want to leave anything to chance.”

If Brar has gone full throttle so has his rival,SAD(B)’s Deep Malhotra. “I have been touring the entire constituency, visiting every village and mohalla. Food and rest can wait for after January 30. We will have more than a month to relax before the results are out,” said Malhotra.

Similarly,Congress Ludhiana North candidate Rakesh Panday has stepped up his door-to-door meetings. “Personal contact with the voter is always better than speaking at a rally. Through door-to-door,one gets to connect with the person,” said Panday. He had toured Habowal Raod,Vrindawan Road,Navin Nagar,Aman Nagar,Chandan Nagar,Arya Mohalla,Vikas Nagar,Salem Tabri,Neta ji Nagar,Ashok Nagar,Railway Mandi and other places to woo the voters. So,while Panday handled a part of his voters, the women of his family and Congress workers held similar door-to-door campaigns.

Jaskirat Singh, who handles the office for SAD(B) leader Mantar Singh Brar — contesting the elections from Kotkapura — said: “We plan to hold a road show in Kotkapura where our party president is expected to come. Mantar Singh Brar will cover 54 panchayts that fall in our area and will meet voters early in the morning and again later in the evening, after he returns from the villages.”

Former principal secretary and now a SAD(B) candidate from Bhadaur,Darbara Singh Guru, said,“My meetings ended around 3 am last night. Day before,we finished at 2 am. My schedule is packed.”
