Campaigning by candidates of the Municipal Corporation continued in different wards with most of them making their presence felt. Congress candidate from ward 3,Pardeep Chhabra went door-to-door meeting the residents of the area to seek their support. Chhabra has been the councillor from this ward twice.
Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal,meanwhile will be addressing a gathering of Congress workers and residents of Sector 35 on Saturday. Congress candidate Chander Mukhi Sharma is the candidate from this ward. The contest in this ward between him and Harjinder Kaur is being considered as one of the most watched and awaited.
BJP candidate Sourabh Joshi,meanwhile campaigned in Sector 15 market. He is the candidate from ward 2 that also comprises Sector 12,14 and Khuda Lahora. He sought the support of the traders of the area.
Congress candidate from ward 22 Jatinder Bhatia met the residents of the area. He is the sitting councillor from the ward. Meanwhile,candidate Devinder Singh Babla campaigned from Sector 30 market. Another Congress candidate Rajesh Sharma held door-to-door campaign in ward 8 where he claimed to have received support from various associations.
Senior BJP leaders Harmohan Dhawan and Sanjay Tandon inaugurated the election office of ward 7 candidate Lakshmi Devi. Another election office was inaugurated in ward 14 where Chandrawati Shukla is the candidate.
SAD candidate Jagjit Kang and his wife Inderjeet Kang campaigned in their respective wards. The two met the residents of the wards. Chandigarh Jan Manch candidate Gurpreet Kaur kickstarted her campaign from ward 9 comprising Sectors 39 and 40.
Naveen Gupta,son of senior Congress leader Kulbushan Gupta,who had earlier filed as an independent candidate from ward 21 after he was denied ticket from Congress,withdrew his candidature in favour of Congress nominee Mukesh Bassi. Announcing his withdrawal in the presence of senior CTCC leaders,he assured complete support for Bassi.
