Remembering God

Punjab Police are notorious for their money-making ways,but they put in efforts for the atonement of their sins too. Last week,a langar behind the Punjab Police headquarters in Sector 9 served delicious,well-made ‘chane kulche’ to thousands of passers-by,along with a refreshing sherbet. Women doing sewa at the langar said it was organised to mark the Shaheedi Diwas of Guru Arjan Dev. A passer-by commented perhaps the ‘sewa’ would encourage the cops to put some reins on their corrupt practices.

Lessons not learnt

Having drawn criticism for their jaunts to various places every year,that yield no results,the councillors of the Municipal Corporation are a wary lot. When delegations of councillors from other States visit the civic body,Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh had one question to ask: “Are your trips also scrutinised like ours?”. When one of the delegations replied in the negative the Mayor urged all those gathered,especially the media,to take note.

Governor calling

There could not have been a more strange request than this. Recently,due to unprecedented rush to get post mortems done at the Government Multi Specialty Hospital,Sector 16,relatives of one of the dead persons in order to get the post mortem done early made an official of the governor house call up the hospital. Officials of the hospital politely told the governor house official that they would ensure that their dead body’s post mortem was done ahead of three others. “Today we have four bodies,all waiting for the post-mortem,you do not worry sir,we will ensure,yours is done first,” said the official.
