Burail Jail inmate tries to kill himself

The UT Police has booked an under trial at Burail Jail for an attempt to commit suicide on a complaint made by the Burail Model Jail Superintendent,Amandeep Singh.

The UT Police has booked an under trial at Burail Jail for an attempt to commit suicide on a complaint made by the Burail Model Jail Superintendent,Amandeep Singh. The accused,Sonu,an under trial facing robbery charges,is admitted in Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).

According to the complaint,the accused,Sonu alias Bakri,and his barrack-mate Karan Thakur had an altercation which turned violent. Following the fight,the two were separated. After they were separated,Sonu attempted to commit suicide. “Sonu first started banging his head into the wall. After being stopped,a while later,he removed the electric bulb inside his room and ate it,” reads the complaint.

Police officials said that the accused has presently been admitted in the PGIMER and the doctors say that his condition is stable.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) South,Surjit Singh Malik said,“The doctors in PGI have declared Sonu stable but he is not in a condition to give a statement”.

Sonu is in jail in connection with a robbery case. Karan Thakur is accused of cheating. A resident of Sector 40,Karan was arrested by Police Station Sector 11 officials last year.
