Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal released the anthology of poems Gwache Warq by Bubbu Tir at Punjab Kala Bhawan on Friday. This is the authors thrid book of poetry. As many as 52 poems form part of the anthology,and the subject of the poems is human relationships. The book is dedicated to her children.
Tir wants the next generation to be in touch with their mother tongue,connect with it,read and write,and in the process,come closer to their roots.
It was an emotional moment for me to come back to Punjabi writing. I feel poetry is the most sensitive way to express your emotions to the world. In these couplets you will find the real me. What you cant share with the world,you can reflect with poetry, says Tir. Paper,she smiles is not a judgmental friend,and the process of writing poetry makes one experience real sense.
A silent march by senior citizens
CHANDIGARH: More than 1,000 senior citizens marched through Sector 17,on Saturday as part of the nation-wide protest in support of their demand for a better deal for older people.
The protesters included several in the age group of 90 and above. Some even needed walking assistance or were on wheel chairs. The young generation also attended to show their solidarity with their grandparents.
The march was unique in many ways. For one,it was a silent one. No slogan,shouting and speeches. For another,it did not obstruct the roads and traffic flow was normal. The organizers,Chandigarh Senior Citizens Association (CSCA) had in place an effective marshalling and control organisation to ensure that everyone new his/her position in the order of march.
Almost all the demands were on behalf of the deprived sections among them and asked for honest implementation of existing policies like National Policy on Older persons 1999,Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 and Indira Gandhi Old Age Pension Scheme.
Copies of Memorandum of demands addressed to the Prime Minister were sent to Governor of Punjab and Administrator Chandigarh UT,Governor of Haryana,the Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana,Pawan Kumar Bansal,Madhya Pradesh,Advisor to Administrator Chandigarh UT,and Deputy Commissioner.
Concert at Kundan International
CHANDIGARH: A musical concert by Jayanti Kumaresh,a noted Veena player was organised at Kundan international School,Sector 46 under the aegis of SPICMACAY. Jayachandra Rao on the Mridangam and Pramath Kiran on Morching and Percussion accompanied her.
Jayanthi Kumaresh is the youngest veena player to receive ‘A Top’ from All India Radio and has quite a few musical productions to her credit. She mesmerized all present with her pristine pure music. Children from Ashiana Home,Panchkula were also invited for the event.
Two-day symposium conducted at PU
CHANDIGARH: The computer science department of the Panjab University,conducted a two-day Symposium on “Curriculum Revision and Quality Education”.
The symposium was organised to review and amend the syllabus of various professional courses offered by the affiliated colleges of PU and further update it to be in-line with the present and forthcoming professional & industry requirements.
Panjab University vice-chancellor Prof Arun K Grover (VC) and PU DUI Prof Madhu Raka inaugurated the function and suggested to introduce those syllabi components,which actually make the students practical learners. Chairperson of Department of Computer Science,Indu Chhabra shared her views.
