Dalits demand white paper on funds for SCs

Amritsar: The Chamar Mahan Sabha,a non-political body,on Tuesday demanded that the 85th constitutional amendment be implemented in total in Punjab to provide maximum benefits to the Scheduled Castes (SCs). Paramjit Singh Kainth,president of the Sabha,said that the state government has failed to protect the rights of the SCs and demanded that Gulzar Singh Ranike,a dalit minister,should resign. He also urged Chief Minister P S Badal to release a white paper on how the state utilised Rs 6092.62 crore that it received from the Centre for the welfare of SCs.

GNDU declares B Ed results

Amritsar:The results of B Ed examination held by the Guru Nanak Dev University in April this year have been declared,Dr R K Bedi,Professor in-charge (Exams) said here on Tuesday. The results are available on the University website http://www.gndu.ac.in.

PPP chief to file PIL against the corrupt

Jalandhar:People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) chief Manpreet Badal on Tuesday announced that he will file a PIL in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against tainted officers,who have been working on various key posts in the state. He also intends to make Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal a party in the PIL. Manpreet also plans to meet the Governor and the Election Commissioner of India (ECI) in connection with the issue.

Petro dealers not to lift stock for 3 days

Jalandhar:The Punjab Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) on Tuesday announced that it would not buy any petroleum product for three days beginning July 7 to protest against the state government’s decision of not removing octroi and surcharge imposed on diesel and petrol. They are also demanding to reduce the VAT on petroleum products to bring it at at par with neighbouring states.

Eight-year-old stabbed to death

Jalandhar:An eight-year old boy was stabbed to death by allegedly by a 17 year-old-boy on the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) camp premises on Tuesday. The accused is a student of Police DAV school located on the PAP premises and is absconding. SHO,Ramamanadi Police station,Barjinder Singh said that the cause of murder is yet to be established.
