Congress blames SAD-BJP for misuse of central grants
AMRITSAR:Alleging step motherly treatment was being meted out to Amritsar,Congress leaders today said there was large scale misuse of central grants by the SAD-BJP government. Senior Congress leader Jasbir Singh Dimba said that while the previous regime under Capt Amarinder Singh had brought various development projects to the city,the residents now feel cheated.
Signature campaign for Bhullar release
LUDHIANA: With an aim to collect some 50,000 signatures from all over Punjab,the Sikh Youth of India is currently holding signature campaigns all over the state seeking the unconditional release of Prof Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar. The youth organisation began its campaign on June 11 from the Golden Temple in Amristar where it collected some 8000 signatures on day one alone. This campaign which is expected to end by July will then be handed over to the President of India in the form of a memorandum. The organization has so far held similar campaigns in cities like Hosphiarpur,Jalandhar ,Barnala and in Ludhiana.
Police sign MoU with institution
CHANDIGARH:Punjab DGP PS Gill and Mahant Kahan Singh,Chairman of an educational institute group today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pursue social causes like education,drug de-addiction,and prevention of female foeticide. Disclosing this here today,PS Gill said the wards of Police personnel interestedin obtaining education in these institutions will be given a mutually agreed discount in the fees and the Police may also offer financial assistance from its Personnel Welfare Funds in lieu of services received for their wards. He further said that the officers of the level of IGP(Zones) of the respective areas,where the aforesaid educational institutions were situated,shall be ex-officio members of the Management Committees on behalf of the Punjab Police.
