Justice Ranjan Gogoi of the Punjab and Haryana High Court is likely to take oath as the Chief Justice of the High Court this week. The President of India has reportedly,on Monday,cleared his name for elevation as Chief Justice of the High Court. Justice Gogoi is presently the acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court after the retirement of his predecessor Justice Mukul Mudgal. Official intimation in this regard is however awaited. As per available information,Justice Gogoi is likely to be administered oath as the Chief Justice this Friday.

Lawyers’ agitation deferred till Feb 15

Following an assurance by an Administrative and Inspective Judge of Amritsar Session Division on Tuesday,the city lawyers who had been on the war-path against DTO Jasbir Singh and his staff members for misbehaving with an advocate,have deferred their agitation till February 15. The decision was taken in an emergency meeting of the general house of Amritsar Bar Association that met under its President Pardeep Saini.

Kirpal Singh Randhawa,a human rights activist who is an eye witness in the Khalra case and still claims to be member of Punjab Human Rights Organisation (PHRO),today shot off a telegram message to DGP Punjab PS Gill expressing fears of threat to his life.

Robbers attempt to take away ATM

Unidentified robbers on Monday night attempted to carry away an ATM of Bank of India’s Majitha road branch. Manager of the branch Santosh Kumar told the police that there was a large amount in the ATM and the robbers tried to break it but on seeing the security guard approaching they ran away.
