Officials told to wrap up water,sewage projects by Nov 30
To ensure timely completion of water supply and sewerage projects in 45 towns of the state under National River Conservation Plan,Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today constituted a committee comprising the chairman of Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB),managing director of Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board (PWSSB) and the concerned deputy commissioners to monitor the progress on a day-to-day basis and asked his principal secretary to hold a meeting after every fortnight to achieve the target by November 30,2011. The CM also directed the commissioner,Municipal Corporation,and deputy commissioner of Ludhiana to ensure timely completion of the 13-km stretch of lining Buddha Nallah within the city at a cost of Rs 20 crore.
Dal Khalsa says Indian politicians should learn from Egypt
Notwithstanding that India is a democratic country,Dal Khalsa,a radical Sikh political outfit,on Thursday warned Indian politicians,especially corrupt ones to learn lessons from the political upheaval in Cairo (Egypt). Terming the revolt in Egypt as significant,the organisation has called upon the international community and the Indian government to support the peoples uprising aimed at dislodging a corrupt and authoritarian regime.
CM clears fund for military training institute
To make the upcoming Maharaja Ranjit Singh Preparatory Institute for Military Training at Mohali financially viable,Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today approved a corpus fund of Rs16 crore. While reviewing the progress of the prestigious institute here at Punjab Bhawan this morning,the CM directed the finance department to immediately release a sum of Rs 5 crore as corpus fund during this fiscal and the remaining Rs 11 crore in the next financial year. The CM also asked the Director of the institute,Maj Gen (Retd) BS Grewal to immediately convene a general body meeting of the institute to finalise the modalities for its maiden session likely to begin from April 18,2011.
Punjab govt exploiting NRHM staff: Union
National Rural health Mission employees are being exploited at the hands of some officers. This was alleged by Sarabjeet Singh Kalakh,President of NRHM Union,Punjab. While addressing a press conference here,he said,Keeping in view the rights of employees,the state governments of Bihar and Rajasthan have increased facilities and salaries of employees. However,the government of Punjab pays lower salaries and sends the money back to the government of India by imposing unnecessary deductions on the salary of employees. However,Baldeo Purusharttha,Mission Director of NRHM,Punjab,said,The Union gave me a memorandum of its demands. But it is not worth comparing the salary of Punjab employees with those in Rajasthan and Bihar because the working conditions of the other two states are totally different. We will soon come up with some solution for these employees.
Amritsar lawyers on indefinite strike
There seems to be no letup in the war of words between lawyers and District Transport Officer Jasbir Singh,who along with his security men allegedly misbehaved with a young lawyer,Arvind Sharma,in his office yesterday when the latter had come to inquire about a driving licence. The general house of Amritsar Bar Association held an emergency meeting at the bar premises on Thursday and unanimously decided to suspend work till a case was registered against the DTO and his men for bashing upArvind. DTO Jasbir Singh however said that Arvind had used abusive language and was trying to get the work done in an unauthorised manner. He was supported by the district unit of PCS Officers Association.
