Budget session from March 4
Chandigarh: The Budget Session of the 13th Punjab Vidhan Sabha has been tentatively convened from March 4 to 25,2011. A spokesperson of the Chief Ministers Office said Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal cleared the file to this effect on Wednesday evening for the approval of the Cabinet,before sending it for a final nod by the Punjab governor.
Governance reform panel gets extension
Chandigarh: The government has extended the term of the Punjab Governance Reform Commission for a year. The last term expired on January 8. Chief Minsiter Parkash Singh Badal had cleared its extension and also that its chairman,Dr Parmod Kumar,for a year,a government spokesperson said.
Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notices to Punjab government on a petition filed by Gurmit Singh Sran (of Faridkot District)and some other candidates who had alleged that the question paper of the written test,that had been conducted by the Punjabi University on July 4,2010 had been leaked to some of the candidates at 9.00 A.M.,while the written examination started at 10.00 A.M. on that day.
3G mobile services in five cities
Jalandhar: Reliance Communications launched 3G services in five major cities of Punjab,including Jalandhar,Ludhiana,Amritsar,Patiala and Bathinda,on Thursday. Speaking to the media,representatives of the company said over 20 cities will get the service in the next few weeks.
Four judges to be sworn in today
Chandigarh: Four ad hoc Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court will be administered oath as permanent judges on Friday. The four are Justice Ajay Tewari,Justice Rajan Gupta,Justice Augustine George Masih and Justice Jitendra Chauhan. The four will be administered oath as permanent Judges by the acting Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi.
Holy city status sought for Amritsar
Amritsar: The Sikh Youth of Punjab has decided to seek holy city status for Amritsar and urge the Prime Minister to declare the city free of tobacco and drugs. The organisation declared its agenda during a meeting on Thursday.
