Sukhbir flays Preneet Kaur for attack on Punjabis in Australia

Chandigarh: Blaming the Union government”s “weak-kneed” policies for spurt in attacks on the people of Punjab origin in Australia,Shiromani Akali Dal president and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal trained guns on Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur for representing Punjab but failing to protect the interests of its people living in other countries. “What to call of conveying a stern message to Australia, the minister has not even summoned the Australian high commissioner after Thursday attack on Lakhwinder Singh,” he said. In a communiqué to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,Sukhbir said the recent killing of Rajpura youth Lakhwinder Singh in Melbourne had confirmed the fear that Punjabis were increasingly becoming victims of racial attacks. “There have been more than 100 racial attacks since 2009 and the Australian government has not taken any deterrent step to stop these. The security of immigrants is the sole responsibility of the host country as they are contributing to the economy of Australia,” he said, urging the PM to use every possible diplomatic means to ensure protection of Punjabis living in Australia and other countries.
