CCTVs to be used at Hola Mohalla
Ludhiana:
For the first time,close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed at Hola Mohalla festival organised at Kirapur Sahib and Anandpur Sahib. Ropar Deputy Commissioner Arunjit Singh Miglani said this while presiding over a review meeting regarding arrangements of Hola Mohalla at Anandpur Sahib. “To maintain law and order and keep a strict vigil on anti-social elements,CCTVs will be installed in all 12 sectors of Kiratpur Sahib and Anandpur Sahib. The festival will be held from March 15 to 17 at Kiratpur Sahib and from March 18 to 20 at Anandpur Sahib,” he said.

Lepoard death: Nangal police arrest one
Ludhiana:
The Nangal police have arrested one Jeevan,a resident of Plata village,for killing a leopard last year. According to SHO Kesar Singh,Jeevan has been booked under Sections 429 and 379 of the IPC and Sections 9,39 and 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act. He has been sent to judicial custody. On November 19,a leopard was found strangulated at Khera Kalmot village of Nangal tehsil in Ropar district.

Punjab Police seeks suggestions on rules
Chandigarh:
The Punjab Police on Wednesday sought suggestions from public groups of experts drawn from former judicial officers,bureaucrats,police officers and academicians on the Punjab Police Rules framed for Punjab Police Act-2007. Rajinder Singh,Additional Director General of Police,Rules,said the Punjab Police had put up the draft of the new rules on their website,www.punjabpoliceindia.org. He said an open house meeting of representatives of all wings and units would take place in the first week of March for a comprehensive discussion,after which the draft rules would be finalised and submitted to the government for its approval. Lawyers declare ‘no work day’ today
AMRITSAR:
In a meeting of the executive body of Amritsar Bar Association on Wednesday,the lawyers resolved to continue their stir against District Transport Officer Jasbir Singh and others who allegedly misbehaved with their colleague on February 2. They also appealed to the lawyers in other parts of the state to join their agitation. “The matter involved in the agitation concerns the dignity of the advocates’ community,but the state government is paying no heed towards the genuine demand (to take action against the DTO),” said association chief Pradeep Saini,adding that they would observe February 24 as “no work day”.

LPG plants for two crematoria in Amritsar
AMRITSAR:
The city will become first in the entire north India to have its two crematoria equipped with LPG plants to save wood and cut down on the expenses incurred on cremations. Talking to the media on Wednesday,MP Navjot Singh Sidhu said: “Such crematoria are common in Gujarat and Kerala,but Amritsar will be the first to have two of such where the burning of bodies would be through LPG.” He said the grounds run by Durgiana Committee and Shamshan Sewa Samiti Chattiwind had been chosen for the purpose. He said a team of senior citizens had visited Kochi to see the functioning of LPG crematorium and finalised the projects,which would completed at a cost of Rs 32 lakh. Sidhu said the cost of cremation through LPG would come down to Rs 300 from Rs 1,400. he also demanded a Duronto train between Chandigarh and Amritsar.

SMO found absent at primary health centre
Ludhiana:
The senior medical officer of the health centre in Jand Sahib of Faridkot district,along with seven other staff members,were found absent from duty when Faridkot Deputy Commissioner Balwinder Singh conducted a surprise raid. On checking the attendance register,the DC found that the SMO,Dr Jai Dev,had marked himself “on leave” from February 18 to 24. Binder Singh,a sweeper,reported for duty in his night dress and was drunk. The DC has issued show cause notices to all those absent.
