jalandhar: The government has approved a new project for increased surveillance of riverine gaps along the Indo-Pak border on the Punjab frontier. The Border Security Force (BSF) will get new infrastructure for the project,said BSF IG,Punjab Frontier,Himmat Singh today. He said the new infrastructure would be the first of its kind in the country and would be immensely useful in critical situations. “The infrastructure would include illumination of the points along the riverine gaps and raising of new posts,” said the IG,who was here to attend the 46th raising day of BSF.

Missing woman: HC hands over case to CBI

Chandigarh: Taking note of Punjab Police’s failure to trace a married woman for over two and a half years,the Punjab and Haryana High Court has handed over the investigation of the case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Justice Rajan Gupta today passed the orders in this regard and directed CBI to submit a report within two months. A resident of Rajpura in Patiala ,Ved Prakash had filed a petition in the High Court stating that his daughter had got married on February 22,2008 to one Kapil. Two months after the marriage,Prakash’s daughter Rekha went missing,the petitioner has submitted. The petitioner has alleged that his daughter was harassed by her in laws on account of dowry demand. The Punjab Police had registered an FIR on April 21,2008 but whereabouts of Rekha are yet unknown.

GNDU polls: Only president to be elected

Amritsar: All the office-bearers and executive members of the Guru Nanak Dev University Teachers Association (GNDUTA),except president,have been declared elected unopposed for the year 2010-11. Elections to the posts had been scheduled for December 7. Dr. Amarjit Singh Sidhu and Dr. Balwinder Singh,both of the Department of Commerce and Business Management are in the field for the office of President.

Majithia releases grants of Rs 1.36 crore

Amritsar: Majitha MLA and patron of Youth Akali Dal,Bikram Singh Majithia on Thursday released grants of Rs1.36 crores to the six village panchayats of his constituency for the various development projects.
