AMRITSAR: The World Sikh Parchar Sanstha (WSPS) meeting at the Akal Takht was on Wednesday deferred to December 17 for want of quorum as many leaders failed to turn up for the meet,organized under the leadership of Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh. Various WSPS leaders including former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kewal Singh,Ranjit Singh,Jaswinder Singh and DS Virdi took part in the meeting,meant to call a World Sikh Sammelan. Jathedar Gurbachan said that all key issues including the rising menace of drug addiction,shorning of hair by Sikh boys,female infanticide and others social evils would be discussed at the meeting.

Dead PSEF employees’ kin end rooftop siege

PATIALA: The stalemate over the family members of dead employees of erstwhile PSEB threatening to kill themselves after having locked themselves on the rooftop of the Power Corporation’s headquarter building,ended on Wednesday with the district administration acting sternly against those on the rooftop. According to available information,after the failure of talks between the Power Corporation’s management and the office-bearers of the Mritak Mulazam Asrit Sangharsh Committee,fighting for jobs in lieu of their dead kin,the Power Corporation had sought the help of the district administration. The Patiala SDM later came up in the evening,reached the rooftop of the seven-storeyed building,and took the five protesting staff down with the help of the police.

MLA moves HC for police protection

CHANDIGARH: MLA from Rampura Phool constituency Gurpreet Singh Kanger has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking police protection and directions to the State to arrest an absconder who has allegedly murdered Kanger’s business partner. The petition which is slated to come up for hearing on Thursday has made the Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and a former MLA from Bathinda respondents. The petitioner has demanded that directions be issued to arrest one Gurpeet Singh,son of Jagjit Singh who allegedly murdered Kanger’s business partner Sham Lal in 2008.

Commissioner suspends Naib Tehsildar

HOSHIARPUR: The Divisional Commissioner of Jalandhar,S R Ladhar,has suspended Hoshiarpur Naib-Tehsildar Amar Nath for registering two sale deeds pertaining to an NRI’s land on the basis of power of attorney which the Naib Tehsildar had himself earlier cancelled. As per the information available,Bikram Singh,son of Raj Kumar,a Canada-based NRI,had issued a power of attorney in respect of his land in village Ghasipur on the Hoshiarpur-Dasuya road to one Gaurav,son of Ravi Kishen. The said power of attorney was registered with the Tehsildar-cum-Sub Registrar,Jalandhar –II on November 2,2009. Afterwards,the NRI,apprehending something fishy on part of the attorney-holder,got the power of attorney revoked in the office of Naib-Tehsildar,Hoshiarpur on April 15 this year. After more than two months of the cancellation,Gaurav used the same cancelled power of attorney to sell the NRI’s land worth over Rs 2 crores by executing two different registered sale deeds in the office of Amar Nath,Naib-Tehsildar,Hoshiarpur on June 25 this year.

‘No takers for Manpreet’s Jago Punjab Yatra’

CHANDIGARH: Bikram Singh Majithia,former Minister and MLA,on Thursday,said that the people of Punjab would not welcome the Jago Punjab Yatra and it would be nothing more than a reflection of the personal aspirations of Manpreet Singh and his band of “misfits”. In a statement issued here, Majithia said that Manpreet made his exit from the government and party based on a “make-believe debt waiver to abolish subsidies to receive a fictitious Rs 35,000 crore”.

Railways to sign MoU with Punjab Govt

CHANDIGARH: The Railways has decided to sign an MoU with the Punjab Government (PWD Department) that will enable the State government to execute the Railway Over Bridge portion of a project along with approaches of ROBs,on mutually agreed projects expediting the construction of these projects. Presiding over the ,meeting the Deputy CM emphasised that he had already met Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee and Chairman Railway Board and they have appreciated his new proposal for unified command of the ROB Project.
