AMRITSAR: A 14-year-old Class VIII student Jagjit Singh has allegedly been kidnapped after he left home for school at Khalra in Tarn Taran district on Saturday. Jagjits father Ramji claimed that the family received a ransom call with the caller demanding Rs. 12 lakh for the boys release . The family reported the matter to the police after Jagjit did not return home from school on Saturday. Tarn Taran SSP Manminder Singh said police had identified the kidnapper as Lakhwinder Singh. We will soon crack the case, Manminder added.
Around 75 lakh MT
of wheat procured
CHANDIGARH: As many as 75.64 lakh metric tonne of wheat has been procured till April 28 in the state,Secretary (Food and Civil Supplies) D S Grewal said on Sunday. According to the agriculture department,108 lakh MT wheat was expected to arrive in the mandis. The department has made sufficient arrangements to purchase more than 115 lakh metric tonnes of wheat this season, he added. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon on Sunday reviewed the ongoing procurement.
State must observe Manto centenary
CHANDIGARH: Former Punjab deputy speaker Bir Devinder Singh said on Sunday that the Punjab government should celebrate the first birth centenary of the great Urdu writer of South Asian region,Saadat Hasan Manto,which falls on May 11. Manto was born in village Paprrauda of Samrala Tehsil of Ludiana district,who later migrated to Lahore in Pakistan during Partition in 1947, said Devinder.
Badarpur to Hodal road to be six laned
CHANDIGARH: The Badarpur (Delhi) to Hodal (Uttar Pradesh Border) in Haryanas Palwal district will be six laned by a project worth Rs 600 crore. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda will lay its foundation stone in September,said MP Deepender Hooda on Sunday.
Haryana youth to be provided technical and science education
CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government will lay special emphasis on providing technical and science education to the youth of the state. With an aim to acquaint the youth of the state with the functioning and progress made by the corporate sector,groups of 15 students each will be taken to different multinational companies,said Haryana Industries Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala at the first convocation of Dr B R Ambedkar Government College,Kaithal.

HUDA issues guidelines for clubbing of commercial sites
CHANDIGARH: Regarding clubbing of commercial sites,the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has issued guidelines that the respective HUDA zonal administer will issue sanction letter for clubbing of sites keeping in view the structure safety measures,along with a certificate from the structure engineer and approve single building plan. The HUDA Estate Officer will accept the single building plan for clubbed sites.
Haryana to lift ban on pregnant women appointment as teachers
CHANDIGARH: After sparking off a controversy with the Haryana governments decision of not recruiting women who are more than 12-week pregnant as teachers,Education,Social Justice and Empowerment minister Geeta Bhukkal said on Sunday that the rules will be improved. The government will do away with the rule making a pregnant woman unfit, she added.
