Punjab CM visits flood relief camps
LUDHIANA: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,who visited flood relief camps in Ferozepur on Wednesday,alleged that the state was being given step motherly treatment by the Centre as it is providing Rs 1,500 per acre as compensation for crop damaged due to floods. He added that the state was pooling Rs 3,500 per acre from its own pocket to give Rs 5,000 per acre to the farmers. The Centre is taking 68 per cent of the income from state in the form of taxes and in return,giving only 32 per cent in form of grants, he said. The state has taken up with the Centre the issue to increase compensation of farmers for crop loss to at least Rs 15,000 per acre,he added.
Himachal IHMs inauguration today
SHIMLA: Himachal Pradeshs first Institute of Hotel Management built at a cost of Rs 18 crore in Hamirpur,Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumals hometown will become functional on Wednesday. The state-of-art institute has come up within a period of two years in an area of 16,262 sq m. The institute will admit 600 students in its three-year Hospitality and Hotel Administration degree course. While around 120 students have already been enrolled in the first batch,240 students have been admitted in two diploma courses in food production and food and beverage services. The institute has tied up with prestigious hotel chains like Hyatt,Leela Kempenski,Regency,Orchid,Classic group for providing practical training to its students. The institute will promote Himachali cuisine at both the national and international levels.
500 saplings planted in Punjab village
AMRITSAR: More than 500 tree saplings were planted at village Fatehgarh Shukarchak by Guru Har Rai Sports Club,in collaboration with Baba Sewa Singh Khadur Sahib Wale,on Wednesday. The organisers,which included Gagandeep Singh,a youth leader,asked the people to sow more saplings in the monsoon season.
