‘Green wall’ around industrial hubs in Punjab

CHANDIGARH: To reduce levels of pollution in industrial cities of Ludhiana,Mandi Gobindgarh,Jalandhar and Batala,the Punjab government has decided to create a ‘green wall’ of trees around it. Saplings worth Rs 2 crore would be planted,said Forest Minister Arunesh Shakir,adding that seminars and workshops would also be conducted to spread awareness.

Left protesters held for stopping trains

AMRITSAR: At least 40 activistits of CPI and CPI (M) were on Tuesday arrested and some others were detained and later freed,while they were planning to stop trains in protest against the delays in running the Amritsar-Chandigarh Duranto train.

100 acres for sewage treatment plant

JALANDHAR: Municipal Corporation Jalandhar has been directed to get around 100 acres on rent for making a temporary Sewage Treatment Plant to treat domestic sewage till the time a 50 MLD plant under the National River Conservation Plan is not installed.

Four arrested for peddling drugs

NAWANSHAHR: Nawanshahr police claimed to have busted a gang of drug peddlers by arresting four people. The accused are Amandeep Singh,Saurabh Arora,Baljinder Kaur alias Mona and Balbir Singh. Police have seized 600 grams of heroin from their possession.
