Speed governors: HC finds Haryana notification incomplete
The notification filed by the Haryana government on installation of speed governors in vehicles has not found favour with the the Punjab and Haryana High Court. For,the government has failed to stipulate the condition to install speed governors in old vehicles. To ensure that no transport vehicle in Haryana runs without a speed governor,the High Court has directed the state to install the instrument in all transport vehicles by March 31,2011. The directions were passed during the resumed hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Suraksha Foundation,a Ludhiana-based NGO. Those covered in the category of transport vehicles,according to the notification,include “vehicles for carriage of passengers for hire or reward (for example cars,taxis,maxi cabs,buses whether plied as a contract carriage or a stage carriage)”.
Rs 1,443-cr budget for social justice dept
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has called upon the people to make their contribution in enabling the differently enabled people to join the mainstream. He said a budget of Rs 1,443.69 crore was being utilised by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment to implement various schemes during the current fiscal. In a message issued on the eve of International Day for Persons with Disabilities,the CM said hundred per cent cost of aids and appliances or artificial limbs was being reimbursed to the District Red Cross Societies working in the state to rehabilitate the disabled. Hooda said Rs 1.25 crore had been earmarked as financial assistance to be given to non-school going disabled children during the current fiscal.
Apni mandis planned in Haryana
The Haryana government will set up Kisan Bazaar-Apni Mandis in Panchkula,Karnal and Gurgaon to ensure remunerative prices to farmers for their produces. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said this on Thursday after inaugurating a modern grain and vegetable market constructed at a cost of Rs 13 crore at Mullana village in Ambala district. He also inaugurated various development projects worth Rs 56 crore,a railway overbridge at Barara,in Mullana Assembly constituency.
Youth festival at Rohtak from Dec 14
The 17th Haryana State Youth Festival will be organised at Sir Chhotu Ram Stadium,Rohtak,from December 14 to 16. A spokesman of the sports and youth affairs department said 850 young artistes from all districts of the state would take part in the festival. Competitions in 19 cultural disciplines,such as folk songs,folk dance,one-act play,classical vocal,sitar,flute,tabla,violin,Kathak,Bharatnatyam,Manipuri,Odissi,Kuchipudi and Kathakali will be organised.
