Vigilance arrests Kullu businessman,SP-rank officer under scanner
State Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau today arrested a Kullu-based businessman,Ramesh,who was reported to have handled some money transactions for a leading hydro-power company,apparently meant to be illegal money going to a police officer. Top vigilance officials in Shimla refused to give details,adding that it will hamper the investigations as some vital leads need to be worked out. The position will be clear only tomorrow or day after, said the ADGP,KC Sadyal.
Centres Karmapa clean-chit under US pressure: Himachal CPM
Barely two days after the Centre gave a clean-chit to the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje,the issue seems to have started taking a political turn with the state secretariat of Communist Party (CPM) accusing the UPA government of succumbing to US pressures,and abruptly closing down investigations. Tikender Singh Panwar,CPM State Secretariat member,said,The Centre has granted clean-chit to Karmapa Lama under pressure of the US embassy without even verifying the facts of the case.
41 trees felled in a month in Theog division
Reports of illicit felling of about 41 green deodar,chir and kail trees in Theog Forest Division of Shimla district within the past one month has raised an alarm. The felled trees of category IV and III were not fully grown. Divisional Forest Officer Theog,Laik Ram Chauhan,said,FIR in the case has been registered at Theog Police station under section 379 of IPC and 33 of Indian Forest Act,but the wood of 14 trees could not be recovered so far. In year 2010 nearly 165 fully grown trees of deodar and other species were found cut in Kalbog forest range in Theog division.
