To cut a long story short: the grand prize is US$50,000 and a fully-paid job on the live-action remake of cult anime Bubblegum Crisis in Australia. The challenge: over a period of two months 16 finalists have to take on a new task each week, tolerate teams, work with cutting-edge product innovations from HP,pit in their creative skills and talents against each other in the race to win the lottery. That’s HP Space, the first original pan-Asian reality TV series, which premiered on November 10 on Channel V,and representing India in this reality series are photographer Rohit Ferreira (23) and city’s very own, visual artist Sawan (23).

“The show is about these 16 creative people from across Asia who will put their talent, skills and determination to the test,in a compelling competition to find Asia’s most promising young creative,” Sawan speaks over the phone from Singapore where he is literally having the time of his life. So,how did he get on the show? “There was an invitation for digital auditions to http://www.hpspace.com,followed by a tough selection procedure, made even more challenging by the very high standard of the video submissions. As many as 65 contestants were chosen to participate in on-ground auditions in China,Singapore and India, and we were subjected to a set of mini-challenges,working with complete strangers to strict deadlines,” tells Sawan adding that the finalists were selected based on overall creative talent, leadership and teamwork,as well as their comfort level in front of the camera.

“The show’s all about expressing yourself creatively through the visual media. All you need to have is faith in yourself and you’ll make it,” says the confident chuppie who’s been there for a fortnight now and is soaking in this new found life. “It’s a great environment, and yes, you’ve got to work real hard!” signs off this wanderlust,a happy go lucky Punjabi who finds himself at home wherever he goes. Here’s wishing him all the best!
