As the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) celebrated 125 years of the Indian National Congress on Monday,it chose the day to lash out at the state BJP government, charging it with spreading misinformation among the citizens.

“The BJP is propagating wrong facts about the Centre. It is the UPA government which has given the state nearly Rs 25,000 crore for setting up government institutions like IIT,NIFT,ESIC Medical College and the National Hotel Management Institute during the past five years, whereas all that the BJP has done is open private universities in the state,” said Congress Legislative Party Leader Vidya Stokes at Una.

She added that the private universities are going to drain the resources of the state as well as the people, who would have to pay a high cost for studying in these institutions.

The Congress also charged the BJP government with poor implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) in the state. “Of the Rs 500 crore released to the state, only Rs 300 crore have been spent till date,” said Stokes.

Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Kaul Singh Thakur spoke of the need to maintain discipline in the party.

“The leaders have to uphold the traditions of the party, irrespective of their clout and command in politics,” Singh said.

Senior leaders and former ministers, including Ram Lal Thakur,Asha Kumari and Kuldeep Kumar, were also present at the Congress conclave in Una.
