Upsets continued to happen in the championship as it was turn of Chandigarh’s Bhavya Wadhawan to send top seed Nikita Bishnoi of Chandigarh packing with a 6-3,0-6,7-5 win to rally into the semi-final stage in the girls’ U-16 category in the AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament being played at CLTA courts on Wednesday.

Wadhawan claimed the first set with a 6-3 margin before losing out the steam to lose the second set with a 0-6 margin. Wadhawan then regrouped her energies and claimed the third set with a narrow margin of 7-5 to book her berth in the semi-final stage of the tournament. In another quarter-final encounter in the same category,Harsimran Kaur of Haryana ended the challenge of Arshpreet Mann with a 6-4,3-6,6-2 win. Kaur claimed the first set with a margin of 6-4 before losing the second set with a 3-6 margin. Kaur then claimed the third and final set with a 6-2 margin to march into the semi-final stage of the tournament. It was easy going for Aashima Garg of Haryana as she ended the challenge of Gayatri Kumarian of Chandigarh with an easy 6-3,6-2 win. Garg claimed the first set with a 6-3 margin before claiming the second set with a margin of 6-2 to rally into the semi-final stage of the tournament. In the last quarter-final encounter in the same category,Pooja Mourya of Punjab scored an easy 6-2,6-1 win over Jennifer Luikham of Haryana. Mourya claimed the first set with a 6-2 margin before claiming the second set with a 6-1 margin to storm into the semi-final stage of the tournament.

In the boys’ u-12 category,Yash Yadav rallied into the semi-final stage with a 4-1,5-3 win over Sagar Bains of Chandigarh. Yadav claimed the first set with a 4-1 margin before claiming the second set with a 5-3 margin to book his berth in the semi-final stage. In another quarter-final encounter in the same category,Paramveer Singh Bajwa of Chandigarh ended the challenge of Rishabh Sharda of Chandigarh with a 4-0,5-3 win. Bajwa claimed the first set with a 4-0 margin before claiming the second set with a 5-3 margin. In the last quarter-final encounter of the U-12 category,Param Pun of Chandigarh rallied into the semi-final stage with a 4-2,4-1 win over Aryaman Aggarwal. Pun claimed the first set with an easy margin of 4-2 before claiming the second set with a 4-1 margin to storm ahead into the semi-final stage.
