Weve heard them everywhere from 90s emo-rock,to farewell parties and soundtracks. Weve heard their story also. Best buddies since preschool singer/guitarist Jim Adkins and drummer Zach Lind joined guitarist Tom Linton and bass player Mitch Porter to try their hand at music. With dreams in their eyes and several garage practices later, cynically titled Jimmy Eat World, they make it big. Damage is the eighth studio album by the American rock band. Packed with ten numbers, the album is a clear attempt to phase out their boyish, emo persona. Produced by Alain Johannes (formerly of the band Eleven, and regular Queens of the Stone Age collaborator),Damage was recorded at Johannes home on both analog tape and Pro Tools. The album begins with Appreciation,a track with great drums and punch and is followed by Damage. A softer, yet peppier number, this track is a nostalgic revelation of the good ol days. While Book of love is a peppy number with great guitar riffs, filling the listener over simple lyrics and upbeat drums; I will steal you is a number we can see being included in one of the latest sitcoms. The lyrics are slightly emo for our liking, where Adkins sings,When you pull me in sometimes I almost feel/ The picture in my head is just too real/ Its gonna be how it is,theres some things you dont change/ Im done with telling myself that story, to the resonating sounds of the electric guitar. Damage can be a perfect listen when you are poring over your friends profiles on Facebook or recovering from a messy relationship. A balm for the broken heart, try not to let the lyrics fool you,Jimmy Eat World requires more than one listen to really grow on you.
