Beat the heat

Detoxifying wraps, pressure point massages, hydrating therapies…spas in the city are all set to help you sail through summer!

Bougainvillea in full bloom, litres of lemonade, cool mul-mul kurtas…yes if there’s a bright side to the long- drawn Indian summer then there’s a flip side to it as well. For many of us,it is about getting sun-burnt,prickly heat, itchy eyes,temple-throbbing headaches and more…While there are some gurus of cool who sail through the season cosy in their air-conditioned cocoons, the lesser mortals (the majority of us out there) have to face the sun,the heat, the dust and more. But making sure it’s a smooth sail are the umpteen spas dotted around town, which are already gearing up to help you get back at the heat.

Timing it just right is the Cleopatra Spa and Salon in Sector 44 that’s rolled out a month-long Spa Fest for starters. “The Indian summer is truly harsh and it brings with it lethargy, stress, dust and grime,” reels out owner Richa Aggarwal. To combat it all,the team at Cleopatra has worked out summer spa packages. “Leading the line-up is our Watermelon Spa that’s not just cooling but hydrating as well,” informs Aggarwal who lists out body wraps and massages specially targeted at summer. “To make sure everyone can opt for a spa service,we have spa packages priced as low as Rs 999,” she adds. And that can pack in a de-stressing massage, body cleansing and a wrap.

Elsewhere,at the all-natural Seven Seas Spa in Sector 8 the emphasis is on customised packages. “We are running summer specials suited as per body and skin type,” informs spa manager Madan. Leading the list here is the Ayurvedic treatment ‘Sugandham Lepam’,which is a full body relaxing therapy aimed at removing dead cells. “It’s a hour-and-a-half long treatment priced at Rs 2,900 using only natural and herbal products,” mentions the manager who also recommends the chocolate spa and fresh fruit spa. “The heat is dehydrating and we will offer diet and wellness consultation along with the spa therapy,” he informs.

The one thing that accompanies you all through summer is a bad tan! “It’s the biggest complaint and most of the queries are for tan removal,” admits Mandeep of Kaya Skin Clinic. In an aim to get back,at Kaya they have rolled out a single sitting combination package that brings in cooling as well as tan removal therapies. “Priced at Rs 2,000,we use aloe vera gel, peels and a hydrating mask to help you put your best face forward,” they tell us at Kaya. The other summer specials include laser-peel combo packages for various body areas.

“Since most of us are out under the sun, buzzing from one place to another,it also adds to muscle tension as well as stress,” point outs Divya Singh, the manager at Spa Pevonia, tucked away in Headmasters in Sector 8. The increasing humidity levels, scorching sun just adds to the strain and that’s when you wish for a relaxing back rub and a cool off session in the tub. “We have on offer scrubs, body wraps suited for the season. Also all the massage oils in use are light and non-greasy making it perfect for the weather,” informs Singh who also recommends aromatherapy treatments. Are you tempted?
