Bathinda Battle: Swords drawn as Raninder files papers

Raninder Singh,the Congress candidate from Bathinda parliamentary constituency,today filed his nomination papers,accompanied by his father and former chief minister of Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh and wife Rishma Kaur,who filed the papers as covering candidate.

Addressing the press conference later,Capt Amarinder Singh claimed the Congress would make a clean sweep in Punjab by winning all the 13 seats. Citing a vernacular daily’s report,which quoted Harsimrat Kau Badal,the SAD-BJP candidate from Bathinda,as saying that grants to villages that support Congress in the Lok Sabha elections would be stopped,Amarinder said such statements showed the “desperation” of SAD. “I warn Parkash Singh Badal that if they (SAD-BJP) try to suppress the voters,we will not take it lying down,” Amarinder said.
